LG Hausys announced on March 16 that its roof rack co-developed with Hyundai Motor Company was granted an Innovation Award at JEC World 2017, which kicked off in Paris, France on March 14.

Hosted by JEC Group, the JEC World exhibition is one of the largest of its kind in the world and approximately 1,200 companies participated in the exhibition from all around the world this year. The Innovation Award has been granted to companies that have developed novel industrial materials and techniques in the field of automobile manufacturing, aviation, shipbuilding, etc.

LG Hausys explained that the roof rack based on a proprietary lightweight material, Continuous Fiber Thermoplastic (CFT), was awarded the prize for innovation that reduced weight and the number of parts compared to conventional aluminum.

The roof rack of LG Hausys not only is about 30% lighter than aluminum products, but also reduces the number of parts for roof rack production to one fifth, which is effective in cutting back on production costs. LG Hausys will roll out roof racks using continuous fiber composites and supply them to Korean automakers beginning next year.

Earlier 2012, LG Hausys took home the Technology Innovation Award for its electric vehicle battery pack carrier that was more than 30% lighter compared to steel materials.

"Winning this technological innovation award corresponds the recognition of the achievement of continuous innovation by LG Hausys in the light automobile development sector such as LG Hausys’s development of lightweight materials," said Min Kyung-jae, vice president of the Automotive Parts Business Division at LG Hausys. “Through investment and R&D, we will grow into a leader in the global light auto parts market."
