Hyundai Merchant and Marine Maersk Group announced on March 15 (local time) that they signed an agreement to launch strategic partnership on east-west services among Maersk Line, MSC and Hyundai Merchant Marine in San Francisco. This strategic alliance between the 2M Alliance and Hyundai Merchant Marine will include the change of freight spaces and the purchase of freight spaces for east-west route services.

"We are very pleased to forge strategic partnership with Hyundai Merchant Marine, Korea's leading container shipping company," said Robbert van Trooijen, CEO of Maesk Line Asia Pacific. “This strategic cooperation brings win-win partnership to all related companies. This deal will give Maersk Line customers more options in the Pacific Rim service, and allow Hyundai Merchant Marine customers to take advantage of Maersk Line's powerful Asia-Europe services."

"Maersk Line takes pride in its 87 years of history in Korea since 1930, when our vessel made the first call in Korea," Trooijen said, adding "Maersk Line has contributed to the expansion of Korean products to the global market and will boost cooperation with South Korea.”

Their strategic cooperation will run for three years, including an option for future extension and providing core east-west services.
