WeMakePrice, a major online shopping platform which vows lowest prices, announced that it analyzed its sales via mobile and PC from January 2014 and found out that its sales via mobile surpassed 80 percent of the total in February for the first time.
The portion of the company’s mobile sales has been continuously increased from 54 percent in January 2014 to 61 percent in February the same year and 70.5 percent in April 2015. The figure remained at 75 percent last year and reached 80.5 percent in February this year for the first time. Also, 69.8 percent of new customers in February joined WeMakePrice via mobile devices.
According to the recent data from Statistics Korea, the total online shopping transactions reached 64.91 trillion won (US$56.42 billion) in 2016, up 20.5 percent from a year earlier. Purchases made through smartphones, tablets and other mobile gadgets also soared 41.9 percent on-year to 34.7 trillion won (US$30.16 billion). Mobile sales transactions accounted for 53.5 percent of all online sales last year, exceeding over half for the first time.
An official from WeMakePrice said, “Our key customers are those in their 20s to 40s who are familiar with the mobile environment. So, purchases made through mobile devices are much higher than PCs. We will make an effort to provide new shopping experience to customers as an e-commerce business optimized with the mobile devices.”
