With the commercialization of the NarrowBand-Internet of Things (NB-IoT) ahead, LG U+ held a business presentation at the headquarters in Yongsan-gu in Seoul on Feb. 21.

The event was participated in by key executives in the NB-IoT sector at LG U+, such as Ahn Sung-joon, head of the IoT business division, and Kwon Joon-hyuk, head of the industrial IoT business division, and Fangcheng Ye, vice president of the solution sales division at Huawei Korea, which will provide 100,000 chipsets and modules to its partner companies at no charge, as well as 400 officials from partner companies.

LG U+ is planning to commercialize the NB-IoT network from April. The company expects that more than 500 its partner companies, including startups, will join when the business is on track. Ahn said, “Currently, our base stations in the Seoul Metropolitan area are ready to provide the NB-IoT service when the government’s administrative procedures are finalized. We will secure a thorough IoT coverage across the nation and create a new ecosystem in the future.”

Starting with the business presentation, LG U+ will host events, such as business contest and hackathon, in series to quickly spread the NB-IoT network in the nation.

In addition, the company will begin gas metering and water metering pilot projects first by using the feature of the NB-IoT that is suitable for communication with things at a long distance of more than 10 kilometers with lower power, and will also provide cargo tracking and logistics management services later.
