Renault Samsung Motors (RSM) submitted refutation materials regarding Democratic Party Congressman Moon Byung-ho’s report that it has issued the most recalls in the domestic market over the past five years.

On October 16, RSM announced through its refutation materials that “Hyundai and Kia have recalled about 660K of 15 models due to brake switch connection errors, and Hyundai’s Sonata recorded 185,176 recalls, which is the largest number for a single vehicle recall,” adding, “This is far more than the 120K recalls of Renault Samsung’s SM3 and SM5.”

This overturns the data submitted by Congressman Moon Byung-ho’s office on October 15. Moon used information he received from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Data to report that since September 2008 to now, there have been 120,805 recalls of Renault Samsung’s SM3 and SM5, which is the highest number out of the total 1,188,846 recalls received.
