It has been found that Samsung Electronics filed a compensation suit against three Japanese liquid crystal diode (LCD) panel manufacturers including Sharp.

Japan-based JiJi Press reported on January 20 that Samsung Electronics filed an arbitration request with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in New York to seek US$492 million (approximately 600 billion won) for damages that resulted from the Japanese companies’ halting LCD TV panel supply to the Korean IT giant.

The three Japanese companies including Sharp, which Taiwan-based Hon Hai acquired last year, unilaterally gave Samsung notice of halting the panel supply in December last year.

In September last year, Sharp signed a contract to supply 6 million LCD TV panels to Samsung Electronics starting from this year.

In the meantime, Samsung is known to have tried to fill up the blank with the panels from LG Display. The two Korean firms are reportedly in talks to finalize the deal.
