It has been found that C-trip, one of the largest online travel agencies in China, began to provide a free shuttle bus service in South Korea on the second day of this year with Sino-Korean relations worsening with regard to THAAD deployment in South Korea and China’s economic retaliation that is leading to a decrease in the number of Chinese tourists in South Korea.

The bus, which is available on Friday to Sunday, shuttles between the Incheon International Airport and major tourist destinations in the Gangbuk region of Seoul such as Dongdaemun and Myeong-dong three times a day. Chinese tourists visiting South Korea via C-trip can use it without limitation.

This shuttle bus is the first one that a Chinese travel agency provides for its individual customers in South Korea. In addition, South Korea is the first country where C-trip’s shuttle bus service is provided outside China. The travel agency is planning to put more buses into operation within this month so that non-group tourists, who tend to experience more inconvenience than group tourists when it comes to the use of transportation and movement, can have a better trip in South Korea. Luxury sedans are to be run as well in February for its VIP customers.

“The launching of the shuttle bus service by the travel agency that has no less than 140 million customers implies that South Korea is still a very attractive tourist destination for Chinese tourists irrespective of the diplomatic tension between the two countries,” said an industry source, adding, “The number of Chinese tourists in South Korea is likely to keep increasing in spite of diplomatic issues in that many of them are willing to revisit South Korea.”
