It has been found that POSCO has become the number one among South Korean enterprises in terms of global sustainable management and foreign investors’ preference.

The South Korean steel company announced on January 18 that it was selected as the best in South Korea in terms of global sustainable management at this year’s World Economic Forum. “We have become the only steelmaker in the world that succeeded in putting its name on the top 100 list for three years in a row,” it added.

The announcement of the top 100 list was carried out in Switzerland on January 17 (local time). This year, POSCO climbed five notches to rank 35th and post the highest score among South Korean enterprises. The steelmaker had ranked 40th last year.

The World Economic Forum has released the top 100 list every year since 2005 with Corporate Knights, a media and investment consulting company headquartered in Canada.

In the annual assessment, the competitiveness and sustainable growth potentials of companies that have the largest market caps in the world are evaluated by means of a variety of indices, including not only their financial achievements but also those related to their corporate social responsibility and commitment to co-prosperity such as environmental contribution, tax payment, staff wages, pension fund management and staff turnover rate. This year, Shinhan Bank and LG Electronics followed POSCO by coming in 40th and 65th, respectively.
