Samsung Electronics is to provide German auto brand Audi with its system-on-chip solution, which serves as the brain of future cars. This is the first time for the company to supply a system semiconductor to automakers.

Samsung Electronics announced on January 18 that it will start providing its flagship Exynos processors for German automaker’s next-generation in-vehicle infotainment system. Infotainment, a blend of "information" and "entertainment,” is a neologism describing navigation, audio and video systems in a vehicle. It means that Samsung’s chip will play a role as the brain that controls Audi’s in-car systems.

Samsung’s Exynos processors can support four displays and operating systems at once in a vehicle and can support powerful computing and graphic processing performance to deliver robust and reliable interface and greater user engagement.

As premium car maker Audi has recognized Samsung’s technology leadership, Samsung is expected to gain momentum for tapping into the automotive electronics component market.
