A recent poll has found out that 4 out of 10 smartphones used in Korea are “phablets.” The compound word phablet is formed from the words “phone” and “tablet,” because the large size of these smartphones come close to that of tablet PCs.

Market research firm Flurry announced its findings on October 14 (local time) that 41% of smartphones used by Koreans are phablets in the 5-inch to 6.9-inch range. The proportion of phablets used in Korea is 34% higher than the average of 7% in the rest of the world.

Flurry estimated that 4% of smartphones used worldwide are smaller than 3.5 inches, but no Koreans use those with such a small screen size.

It was reported that Samsung Electronics represents 60% of the Korean smartphone market, followed by LG Electronics (15%), Apple (14%), and Pantech (10%). Smartphones manufactured by other companies account for only 1% of the domestic market.
