This year’s Davos Forum is scheduled for January 17 to 20 in Switzerland. A lot of South Korean tycoons are unlikely to be able to join it as special prosecutors are planning to summon them concerning the Choi Sun-sil scandal.

For example, SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won currently cannot leave South Korea. At last year’s Davos Forum, the chairman had talks and formed partnerships with a number of global leaders in the industries the group is doing business in such as energy, chemical, information & communications technology and semiconductor.

Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong and Lotte Group chairman Shin Dong-bin are in the same situation. It is said that the vice chairman of Samsung Electronics was invited to Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony but could not join it as well.

The Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) is likely to skip this year’s forum, too. Chairman of the federation Huh Chang-soo is scheduled to step down next month. At present, the FKI is on the verge of being disbanded for its involvement in the scandal. Under the circumstances, the Korea Night event hosted by the FKI at the World Economic Forum is predicted to be skipped this year for the first time in eight years.
