Verizon Wireless has decided to update its software that prevents the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 from charging amid the other three US major mobile carriers participating in the software update.

Verizon announced on December 15 it would carry out a software update on January 5 so that its Galaxy Note 7 users cannot charge their smartphones. Then, all of the four major mobile carriers in the United States that have a combined market share of 99% participate in the software update for the recall of the Galaxy Note 7. The others, that is, regional mobile carriers such as Chicago-based U.S. Cellular, have yet to make an announcement on the issue.

Measures like the software update have yet to be determined in the other countries where the Galaxy Note 7 had been first released, examples of which include South Korea, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Taiwan, China and the UAE. The update was conducted on December 15 in Canada and Australia and on December 18 in New Zealand. A similar update for limiting the charging capacity to 30% was performed on December 15 in Europe.

In the meantime, the manufacturer announced on December 11 that it collected more than 2.7 million units of the Galaxy Note 7 until that day among approximately 3.06 million units it had sold around the world. In South Korea, the recovery rate is slightly over 80% as of now.
