Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's largest carmaker, topped the list of the world’s highest quality auto brands in Germany, the home of automobiles. As Kia Motors took fourth place, beating Toyota, both the quality of Hyundai Motor and its smaller affiliate Kia Motors ranked in high levels in Germany for two years in a row.
According to industry sources on December 18, Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors ranked first and fourth in Auto Bild Quality Report 2016 released on December 16, respectively. The former earned 2.14 points to move up two notches while the latter recorded 2.43. Hyundai Motor Company had come in first in 2010 and 2011 and Kia Motors joined the top five for the second consecutive year.
The quality survey covered 20 major automakers doing business in Germany along with their products’ customer satisfaction levels, durability, recall issues, warranty services, etc. The lower the point, the higher the quality. Both Hyundai and Kia are expecting that the results of the latest quality survey will lead to an increase in their sales in the European market.
In October this year, in the meantime, Auto Bild compared the Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid and the Toyota Prius Hybrid to each other and the former outperformed the latter in five out of the seven evaluation items consisting of chassis, environmental friendliness, dynamics, connectivity, driver comfort, power train and cost
The Auto Bild issues an annual quality report for automakers, which sell their products in Germany. The comprehensive assessment includes quality satisfaction and feedback from car owners, 100,000 kilometer durability, recall information, periodical inspection result, maintenance requirements and warranties. The lower the score, the higher quality levels auto brands have.
In addition, Kia Motors and Hyundai Motor Company came in first and third in J.D. Power Initial Quality Study 2016 in the United States and fourth and second in J.D. Power Initial Quality Study 2016 in China, respectively.
