According to industry sources, Samsung Electronics is planning to apply IP68 waterproof and dustproof to its 2017 version of the Galaxy A scheduled to hit the market early next year so that it can be normally operated for at least 30 minutes at an underwater depth of 1.5 meters.

The new Galaxy A smartphone is also expected to come with a 16 megapixel rear camera and a battery with a capacity of 3,500 mAh. A 16 megapixel rear camera has never been adopted for any Galaxy smartphones except for the Galaxy Zoom, which is specialized for camera features. A battery with a capacity of 3,500 mAh is larger than that of the flagship Galaxy S7.

The exterior design of the Galaxy A is likely to resemble the Galaxy S7 except for the dual edge design reserved for the high-end Galaxy S and Galaxy Note products. In addition, the Galaxy A is expected to come in black, silver, gold and rose gold.

The Galaxy A is one of the mid-market smartphones of Samsung Electronics, priced at approximately 500,000 won (US$450). Still, the manufacturer has added various cutting-edge features to it. For example, the Galaxy A launched early this year is compatible with the Samsung Pay.
