Samsung Electronics announced on December 11 that it has collected more than 2.7 million units of the Galaxy Note 7 for recall around the world among approximately 3.06 million it sold.

The company added that the ratio of those collected is more than 90% in North America and Europe whereas it is slightly over 80% in South Korea. Under the circumstances, measures such as charging and communication restrictions are expected to be taken in South Korea to raise the ratio.

Samsung Electronics is planning on additional software updates for the purpose. For instance, it is planning to ban the charging of the device in the United States and impose a limit of 30% in Europe. Similar measures are slated to be taken sooner or later in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Things are to be determined in South Korea. A software update for limiting the capacity to 60% was carried out in October for the safety of users.

With the number of collected devices increasing, the European Aviation Safety Agency recently announced that the restriction on the use of the Galaxy Note 7 in aircraft cabins is unnecessary. Likewise, British Airways, Lufthansa and KLM recently stopped their in-flight announcements for the restriction.
