Kia Motors’ electric car model Soul EV made the top five list of electric vehicles (EVs) with highest sales in Europe for the first time in Oct.

According to industry sources on November 28, Kia’s Soul EV was sold 558 units in the European market last month and ranked fourth in terms of sales in the EV sector. In particular, it was sold 327 units in the German market and became the best-selling car of the month, surpassing other leading competitors.

Considering the fact that all the top three best-selling cars – the BMW i3 (274 units), the Renault Zoe and the Nissan Leaf – are newly launched models with better mileage, it is encouraging to see the increase in sales of the Soul EV, according to market watchers. Kia Motors said that this is largely due to its design, which won the world’s top three design awards, crossover utility vehicle-shaped body frame and spacious interior space.

Boosted by the sales growth in the European market, the Soul EV is about to achieve global sales milestone of 20,000 units by the end of this month in three years after the release. It is the highest sales figure among domestic EVs. The Soul EV was sold 2,235 units around the world when it was first launched in 2014, and it was sold 10,865 units last year, surpassing the annual sales milestone of 10,000 units. This year, the Soul EV was sold 6,868 units from January to October, recording the accumulative sales of 19,968 units.
