SK Holdings C&C Co., SK Group’s IT service provider, is accelerating its smart factory business targeting the global market.

Previously, the company worked together with Foxconn, one of its global partner firms, to convert a printer production line in Foxconn's Chongqing plant into a smart factory. This time, it is strengthening the competitiveness by acquiring a mid-sized maker of logistics and process automation equipment.

SK Holdings C&C announced on November 28 that it signed an agreement of acquiring shares with SMCore Inc.

Therefore, the company will secure the management right of SMCore through the acquisition of new shares and contracts between shareholders according to the allotment to the third party.

After succeeding in domestically producing an automatic warehouse system for the first time in the nation in 1979, SMCore has manufactured automation equipment and logistics robots over the last 40 years. It is the only firm in South Korea that can produce the whole process of logistics automation equipment in warehouse logistics automation and production process lines.

SK Holdings C&C expects to create synergy effect in the global smart factory market by combining its smart factory total solution “Scala” and competence in ICT software, including the IoT, big data, artificial intelligence and integrated logistics, and SMCore’s competence in hardware.

The acquisition is expected to create synergy effect for the two companies. SK C&C, a solution provider for smart factory market gained hardware base through the acquisition.
