First Korean Builder

Daewoo Engineering and Construction (Daewoo E&C) ranked 24th in the ESG performance standings of companies in the Asian region and became the first Korean builder to place for two years running.

According to Daewoo E&C, the company placed 24th among the top 100 companies in the 2016 Channel News Asia Sustainability Ranking of Sustainalytics, Channel News Asia and CSR Asia. Daewoo E&C became the only Korean builder to make the list. This honor means that Daewoo E&C had its sustainability performance internationally recognized for two straight years after last year.

The Channel News Asia Sustainability Ranking has been announcing the best 100 companies through an ESG evaluation of global companies in the Asian region including China, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and the Philippines among others in terms of the environment, social contribution and corporate governance for three years including this year. The list includes a total of 13 Korean firms such as Hankook Tire, S-Oil and Samsung Electronics.

“We introduced a compliance program and have steadily put it into practice. At the same time, we have built an environmental management system by taking the initiative in coping with climate change and developing eco-friendly technology,” said a representative of Daewoo E&C, adding, “These efforts earned our company this international recognition.”
