SK Telecom held the sixth LoRa Alliance All Members Meeting & Open House in Seoul on Oct. 11 with global mobile carriers and IT firms using the LoRa network, which is a dedicated IoT network. There, SK Telecom proposed an IoT roaming technology standard it developed.

The purpose of the roaming technology of SK Telecom is to ensure IoT connectivity in every country using the LoRa network. It is expected to be utilized in a variety of fields such as expensive product tracking, advanced logistics, missing child search and crime prevention. At the conference, SK Telecom discussed commercialization, marketing and security enhancement regarding the roaming technology with the participants and demonstrated it by tracking a suitcase in real time from South Korea to France.

At present, the LoRa network is one of the most frequently used IoT networking techniques. Nationwide establishment of this network has been announced in a total of 17 countries, including South Korea, France and the Netherlands.

The conference was attended by more than 300 companies, including mobile carriers such as Orange, KPN and Swisscom and equipment suppliers like Cisco and IBM.
