LG Electronics is accelerating the establishment of its own ecosystem in the smart TV sector. The company is seeking to strengthen the ties between users, manufacturers and content developers via its smart TV payment service.

LG Electronics has joined hands with Paymentwall, a global leading online payment service provider, to introduce a payment service for LG webOS Smart TVs on October 4. The service enables LG webOS Smart TVs in over 200 countries to support more than 140 different payment methods. Unlike in the past, owners of LG Smart TVs with webOS will be able to make online purchases of foreign apps and contents easily with the new payment service.

Domestic users can buy apps and contents on their smart TVs with 10 payment methods, such as credit card, debit card, account transfer, mobile payment service, T-money, cultural gift certificate, bookstore gift certificate and Happy Money gift card. Moreover, the new online payment feature is available on the existing webOS platform and webOS 2.0 platform as well as the webOS 3.0 platform.

In particular, LG Electronics plans to provide an additional 15 percent of profits to paid app developers over the next one year. The company will offer its payment service development guides, software development kits (SDK), technical descriptions, development tips, sample apps and design guides via its developer website (developer.lge.com/webOSTV).
