LG CNS, the system integration service affiliate of LG Group, has won a deal from Uzbekistan's Ministry of Development of Information Technologies and Communications to establish the National Educational Electric Library (NEEL).

LG CNS Managing Director Park Jin-koog, right, poses with Uzbekistan Minister of Development of Information Technologies and Communications Khurshid Mirzakhidov at the Federation of Korean Industries building on Yeouido, Seoul, Sept. 29, after signing an agreement to construct the National Educational Electronic Library (NEEL) in the Central Asian country.

The NEEL project, which is to build a digital library management system for the Navoi National Library, has been one of the key policy projects of Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov. The 13.5 billion won (US$12.16 million) project will be financed by the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) of the Export–Import Bank of Korea.

Under the deal, LG CNS will establish a multimedia center, digitization center, e-library system and integrated library database in the Navoi National Library.

Earlier in 2008, the company successfully completed Korea's national digital library project and has since worked for Morocco's cybersecurity center, Mongolia's emergency rescue system and Colombia's ICT-based education system, proving its ICT technology competence by overseas e-government systems.

Meanwhile, LG CNS has won or been chosen as the preferred bidder in five e-government system deals this year in countries including Uzbekistan, Laos and Bahrain, contributing to the export of Korean e-government systems.

The company is continuously expanding its e-government business to Asian and Middle Eastern countries and is planning to export its e-government systems to countries all over the world.
