It has been found that a number of consumers are not in a hurry to get a new Galaxy Note 7 with a recall of the product underway due to battery problems. Many of them are planning to get an exchange in or before March next year.

Under the circumstances, Samsung Electronics is getting jittery. Its plan was to recall every Galaxy Note 7 sold so far and accelerate market penetration by providing new ones. In other words, a delay in the collection of the defective products means the danger of battery-related accidents continuing for a longer period of time.

At present, Samsung Electronics is providing 30,000 won for each consumer having his or her Galaxy Note 7 exchanged and making a phone call to each of the rest to encourage them to make a visit for product exchange. However, the rate of the exchange in South Korea is currently lower than in other countries.

According to industry sources, the number of Galaxy Note 7 users in South Korea is estimated at 400,000 or so and about 70% of them have received new products so far. The ratio topped 50% on September 24 and a daily average of 30,000 to 35,000 users has joined the recall program since the following day. In the countries including the United States and Singapore, on the contrary, the ratio topped 50% within a couple of days from the beginning of the recall on September 19.
