Eight models of Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors chalked up the highest-ever scores in the most authoritative customer satisfaction survey in China.

Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors announced that Beijing Hyundai’s five models including the new Avante (locally named Langdong) and Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motor’s three models including the new Sportage (locally named KX5) and K3 topped the general customer satisfaction standings by vehicle grade and in the Car of the Year sector in the 2016 China Automobile Customer Satisfaction Index (CACSI) announced by the China Association for Quality on September 27.

The survey was conducted by the Customer Satisfaction Department of the China Association for Quality under the Chinese government. The survey is the most authoritative customer satisfaction in China and directly asks customers questions in various business sectors such as steel, machinery and automobiles in the agricultural and industrial sectors. This year, the survey was conducted in 65 major cities in China about 176 models of 50 automakers and 58 brands.

In the “new car of the year” category, the new Avante and the new Sportage ranked first in the mid-sized passenger car and mid-sized SUV sectors. The new Avante was launched in China in March of this year and sold over 10,000 units in the first month. Up until last month, the model had sold 71,168 units in total.

In the passenger car category, four models --- Beijing Hyundai’s Verna (Korean model name: Accent) and Mingtu and Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motor’s K3 and K5 (old model) –- ranked first in the general satisfaction standings by vehicle grade. Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motor Co. is an automotive manufacturing company headquartered in Yancheng, China and a joint venture between Dongfeng Motor Corporation, Kia Motors

In the mid-sized car (100,000 yuan to 150,000 yuan) category, Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motor’s K3 stood at number one for four years in a row with 79 points. Beijing Hyundai launched its first model exclusively for the Chinese market in 2013. The Mingtu claimed first place in the mid- to large-sized model (under 250,000 yuan) sector last year and this year after coming in first in the new car sector (under 100,000 yuan) in 2014.

In the SUV sector, Beijing Hyundai’s new Tucson and ix35 (old Tucson ix model) shared the top spot in the mid-sized SUV (150,000 yuan to 200,000) category. This year, the Tucson ix nabbed first place for three straight years after 2014 and last year. Even though Hyundai and Kia confronted stiff competition from local Chinese companies, they proved their statuses with the quality and salability of their products.

Beijing Hyundai ranked first with 81 points for the third consecutive year in the maintenance and repair service satisfaction survey by companies announced in addition to evaluations by vehicle grades. Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motor rose to second place by three notches from last year. In the sales service satisfaction survey, both Hyundai and Kia rose by two notches from last year to share third place.
