Unauthorized Use of Information

Recently, doubts have arisen over Samsung’s unauthorized use of Apple’s confidential information.

German-based blog FOSS Patents reported on October 3 (local time) that Paul S. Grewal, a magistrate judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, has decided to hold a trial for possible sanctions against Samsung at the request of Apple.

The tech company in California claimed that up to 50 Samsung employees were given copies of its top secret documents during the Apple v. Samsung case in 2012. Apple also alleged that Ahn Seung-ho, executive vice president and head of Samsung Corporate Intellectual Property Center, mentioned some contents of the document at a June 4 meeting with Nokia’s Chief Intellectual Property Officer Paul Melin.

The document contained the terms and conditions of Apple’s patent license agreements with Nokia, Ericsson, Sharp, and Philips, and was marked “Highly Confidential -- Attorneys’ Eyes Only.”

The trial is scheduled for October 22. Ahn is expected to testify at court, and Nokia will also appear at trial.
