LG U+ announced on September 21 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, to build a smart city and create the Internet of Things (IoT) industry ecosystem.

Under the agreement, Goyang City and LG U+ will jointly develop business and conduct research and study to establish the smart city in Goyang, develop software and provide testing environment for prototypes, and discover and promote small and large businesses and set up marketing strategies to create the IoT industry ecosystem.

In addition to LG U+, the MOU is also participated in by the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement, Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, National IT Industry Promotion Agency, Goyang Industry Promotion Agency, KINTEX, Norookiban, Korea Smart City Association and Korea IoT Association.

Recently, an increasing number of people are becoming more interested in smart cities using IoT services that can deal with urban problems, raise efficiency and safety and improve the lives of residents. In order to build the IoT-based smart city in Goyang, LG U+ plans to adopt smart city pilot services, such as smart urban environment, our town comfort index and safe parking system.

All the public data to collect from upcoming services will be shared with the citizens in real time. The services are expected to increase the effectiveness of policy development and improve the quality of life and safety of the citizens as they will allow to collect big data and communicate with the citizens in real time.
