The Ministry of Employment and Labor has found that Daelim Industrial vice chairman Lee Hae-wook physically and verbally abused his personal chauffeurs, causing intense public criticism for his ill treatment of workers.

Seoul Regional Ministry of Employment and Labor announced that it has conducted a probe into the labor practices of Lee from March and sent the case to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on August 4.

Lee physically and verbally abused his two personal chauffeurs several times between 2014 and 2015, breaching the Labor Standards Act. The Labor Standards Act states, “Employers cannot assault employees on account of accident occurrence or any other reasons.”

Currently, the prosecutors are planning to decide whether or not to summon the persons concerned after reviewing the case.

Previously, Lee‘s former chauffeurs revealed that he had habitually assaulted and abused them in March through news reports. According to them, Lee demanded them to not check the side-view mirrors on vehicles, and hit their heads from behind if they have trouble driving.

As Lee became the target of public outrage, he apologized at the annual meeting of shareholders, saying, “My misbehavior left someone with indelible scars. I am asking for the forgiveness of all the people that I have offended.”
