Samsung Electronics launched refurnished phone sale in the US. Refurbished phones refer to used and inferior phones which are repaired and resold by their manufacturers. Attention is being paid to whether or not the lately recalled Galaxy Note 7 will come out as a refurbished phone.

According to the smartphone industry on September 5, Samsung Electronics has been selling refurbished Galaxy S4, S5 and S6 models for 30% to 50% discounted prices at a US online shopping mall since September 2 (local time).

As Samsung Electronics decided not to dump the Galaxy Note 7 completely after recalling them, there is a possibility that the recalled Galaxy Note 7 will be repaired and sold as refurbished phones. That is to say, it is forecast that Samsung Electronics will replace batteries of 2.5 million units of the Galaxy Note 7 recalled for the fear of a possible battery problem with new ones and sell them as refurbished phones.

In particular, consumers are now using 1.4 million to 1.5 million of 2.5 million units to be recalled and the 1 million to 1.1 million remaining units are still remaining unopened. Strategy Analytics, a market survey firm, forecast in a recent report that the world refurbished phone market grew 10% last year and will grow 14% this year.
