Since its official release on Aug. 19, the Galaxy Note 7 has sold out quickly with preorders exceeding 400,000 units. But recently there have been reports both in Korea and abroad, claiming that the phone explode when charging.

On Sept. 1, some of the major news outlets in Korea report that Samsung Electronics is considering recalling the Galaxy Note 7, linking a series of reports on phone explosions to possibly faulty batteries. These media outlets also note that the recall will be likely to take place in the way just to exchange the batteries rather than providing a refund or a new phone.

Meanwhile, following the suspension of the shipments of Galaxy Note 7s to local telecommunications carriers after a series of reports on phone explosions, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS), a government organization under the Ministry of industry, Trade and Resources, ordered Samsung to investigate the cause of the explosions.

A PR representative of Samsung Electronics said that the company is currently investigating the defective devices to find out the exact cause of the explosion. He added that the company will release an official statement about the product defects and the countermeasures that the company will take.
