Dasan Networks, a Korean wired and wireless telecommunication equipment firm, will enter the smartphone business by partnering with Lamborghini, a famous luxury car brand. The company is planning to throw its hat in the ring under the brand name of the Lamborghini Phone
According to relevant industries on September 31, Dasan Networks made a foray into the smart terminal business featuring smartphones and internet of things (IoT) terminals along with Lamborghini, an Italian luxury brand. Dasan Networks and Lamborghini will make official their entry into the smart terminal business and disclose their business plan on September 8
It is forecast that the launch of the Lamborghini smartphone in early next year will signal the start of Dasan Networks’ cell phone business. This will marks the first time the network manufacturer will start its smartphone business. Dasan Networks will produce smartphones in the OEM system and began to sell them by utilizing the Lamborghini brand. This way is similar to the LG Prada Phone case where LG launched the Prada Phone in concert with Prada in the past.
Early this year, Dasan Networks struck a deal to use the Lamborghini brand with the Italian automaker. They launched a headset under the brand name of Lamborghini as well.
Dasan Networks has been knocking on the door to the handset market apart from network equipment such as launching a health management smart band based on the Pororo character at the beginning of this year. This time, the company is expanding its business into the smart terminal sector a great deal beyond network equipment.
In particular, in addition to smartphones, Dasan Networks is expected to make inroads into the IoT device business based on its foundation of having developed and sold network telecommunication equipment.
“Dasan Networks will have a business model similar to that of China’s Huawei which releases smartphones while devoting itself to the telecommunication equipment business,” said a representative of the industry. “The debut of the new smartphone brand will vitalize the Korean smartphone market.”
