Samsung Display organized“the “Curved Alliance” with about ten TV and monitor companies including five top Chinese brands including Samsung Electronics and Hisense which ranks first in the Chinese TV market. 

Samsung Display announced on August 24 that they held a Curved Forum meeting with China Electronics Chamber Of Commerce (CECC) at China World Hotel in Beijing China on August 23 (local time).   

The event was attended by about 200 people such as those from TV and monitor manufacturers, government organizations, distribution companies, academia and market survey companies. 

In the event, ten TV and monitor manufacturers proclaimed the inauguration of the Curved Alliance. The ten included Samsung Display, Samsung Electronics, Hisense, TCL, Changhong, Xiaomi and LeTV. The participants agreed to cooperate with one another by expanding curved products and carrying out steady R&D activities in the future. Samsung’s curved displays received a CESI certificate on the excellence of picture quality such as improvements in contrast, brightness uniformity, and image distortion. In particular, they were evaluated to provide a strong sense of being on scene by making an improvement to contrast and image distortion.    

“Major Chinese TV manufacturers are scrambling to include curved TVs in their premium lineups,” said Lu Renbo, CECC deputy secretary-general. “This year will be the first year for the growth of curved TVs and monitors.”

On the other hand, according to CMM, a Chinese market survey company, curved TVs are expected to sell 2.3 million units this and four million units in China next year. Thanks to the popularity of online games, curved monitors are projected to enjoy rapid growth –- two million units this year and five million units next year. At the moment, 20 brands sell 115 curved TV and monitor models.
