Wireless TV Service
KT released the Olleh TV Air service on August 18.
The service is characterized by providing ultra HD videos based on Wi-Fi connection between an Internet modem and an Internet protocol television (IPTV) set-top box. Because no wiring is required, users themselves can install the service without the help of an engineer.
The Olleh TV Air is to be built into set-top boxes. In addition, the service is to function as a wireless access point (AP) down the road although its function is limited to video transmission for now. This means a set-top box with the built-in service will allow the use of wireless Internet connection anywhere at home without any additional Wi-Fi AP installation.
In order to ensure the stability of the wireless video transmission, KT applies smart channel selection to the service. This technique is to deal with wireless interference by surrounding Wi-Fi signals and search for a Wi-Fi channel optimized for IPTV automatically. Also employed is broadband video traffic quality of service (QoS) that is capable of maintaining a speed of at least 35 Mbps with stability.
