SK Holdings C&C, an IT solutions provider, will cooperate with Daifuku, a leading factory automation system developer in Japan, to strengthen its smart factory business targeting China's semiconductor and flat panel display (FPD) industries. Tapping into the latest partnerships in this sector, the company made similar agreements with Germany’s Siemens earlier.

The company said on August 16 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Daifuku to jointly develop smart factory solutions for Chinese semiconductor and FPD manufacturers and expand the partnership in the Chinese market.

Founded in 1937, Daifuku raked in more than 336.18 billion yen (US$3.36 billion or 3.67 trillion won) in sales in 2015 and currently runs 40 branch ofoffices and plants in 22 countries with 7,800 employees around the globe.

Based on the partnership, the two companies will combine SK's smart factory system named "Scala" and Daifuku's manufacturing and logistics automation equipment and technologies in a bid to develop smart factory service models tailored for China’s semiconductor and FPD manufacturing facilities.

To prepare for smart factory services specialized for China's semiconductor and flat panel display markets, the two companies will organize and operate a separate task force team. The team will share potential customer information between the two companies and devise smart factory system service models including maximization of manufacturing efficiency, process improvement and introduction of intelligent logistics systems.

Daifuku said that it regards highly of Scala’s openness, flexibility and expandability and its ability to design and develop customized smart factory services based on the IoT, big data and cloud platforms.
