CHM Inc. recently announced that an electronic cooling and heating mat dubbed “Lamos”, which uses thermoelement, for the first time in the industry.

Lamos is an electronic mat that can be used as a heating mat in the winters and a cooling mat in the summers. Since the electronic mat is energy efficient, it is cheaper to run than an air conditioner. It is also effective to cool and warm the body as it contacts directly with the skin.

The electronic cooling mat uses the Peltier effect that one side gets cooler while the other gets hotter when allowing electricity to flow into two different types of metals. These days, it has been frequently used to produce ventilation seats for vehicles.

When operated as a cooler, the temperature of thermoelements goes down -40 degrees Celsius in an instant and chilled water goes into the mat at the same time. Then, the chilled water circulates into a 90-metered queen size mat for cooling. Heating works in the opposite way from it.

When using the new mat, electric charges will be significantly reduced. The maximum power consumption of thermoelements stands at 99 watts when refrigerating first and 90 watts when maintaining the temperature. The figures are about 10 percent of those of air conditioners. Unlike air conditioners and fans, the mat directly contacts with the body so it doesn’t have to greatly lower the temperature. Accordingly, Lamos can reduce the number of existing cooler and heater uses, which take up much of electricity.

Conventional cooling mats can’t be used for a long time since they use frozen water bottles. However, customers can use the new product for long hours as long as they supply it with electricity. They will also be free from electromagnetic waves as the mat doesn’t use electric coils. In addition, customers can use Lamos all year around since the product can be a cooler and heater at the same time. The company reduced the thickness of the mat to 1 millimeter, a tenth of existing mats, to enable customers to feel the same texture of conventional beddings. CHM also plans to release the premium mat product using high quality fabrics.
