The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning announced on July 28 that it has finalized a consortium to carry out five virtual reality (VR) leading projects and is to begin the projects in earnest.

For the VR service platform which produces VR broadcasting contents, a consortium of 15 companies, including SBS, will develop VR solution technologies and distribution platforms.

For VR games, 8 firms, including Sigong Tech, will develop high quality indoor experience games in order to push into the Chinese and Southeastern markets.

A consortium of 12 companies led by Lotte World Adventure was named as the developer of the VR theme park development program. It will work together with contents firms at home and abroad, such as VR Gyro Drop, Robot Taekwon V and Iron Man, to create a theme park that uses VR technologies.

For ScreenX, the world's first multi-projection system, project, 15 firms, including CJ CGV, has formed a consortium to expand ScreenX theaters and support domestic small and mid-size venture firms so that they can develop a full cycle multi-projection technology of production, distribution, screening and management.

For education distribution project, a consortium of 10 companies led by Hancom will develop educational contents using both VR and augmented reality (AR) technologies and distribution platforms for the cooperation between operators, authors, teachers and learners.

In addition, the consortium plans to carry out joint business with firms which own technologies and contents and to tap into the markets of China, Southeast Asia and Middle East first and then Europe and Americas later.
