Europe certified that the Ioniq Electric, an eco-friendly model of Hyundai Motor, can run 280 km on a single charge. The performance in Europe was 89km longer than in Korea where its measurement method is stricter than that of Europe.

According to Hyundai Motor on July 24, the Ioniq Electric to be launched in the second half of this year in Europe ran 280 km on a single charge based on the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle). The figure is an increase of about 47% from the mileage of 191 km certified in Korea. The Korean automobile industry explained that the increase is attributable to the fact that Korea’s measurement method is much tougher than Europe’s.

In Korea, the mileage of a car on a single charge is about 70% of the total mileage measured after a car runs in the downtown mode until it runs out of batteries, gets recharged and runs in the high speed mode. But in Europe, the mileage of a car is measured in the single NEDC mode and the results are recognized.

This fact lowers an imported car’s mileage of about 200 km based on the European standard to about 150 km in Korea after the model enters the Korean market.
