Samsung Electronics has filed a lawsuit against Huawei Technologies in China, which came after the Chinese firm sued the South Korean tech giant over patent infringement in the U.S. and China in May this year.

Samsung is likely to start launching an all-out patent battle by filing a series of lawsuits in the US, as well as in China. The company said on July 22 that it filed a lawsuit in Beijing’s Intellectual Property Court to seek damages of 161 million Chinese yuan (about 27.4 billion won), alleging that Huawei infringed on its six patents related to smartphones and tablets.

The allegedly violated six patent technologies include method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving information to control the randomization of inter-cell interference in a mobile communication system; a method for recording motion such as digital cameras. They are used in Mate 8 and Honor, which are the latest mobile phones by the Chinese firm.

Earlier, Huawei filed a lawsuit against Samsung in May and early July this year, accusing Samsung of illegally using its patented technologies on a total of 16 products related to Samsung’s 4th generation mobile communications technology and Samsung’s Galaxy S7. The May lawsuit was the first major legal challenge from a Chinese firm against Samsung, the world’s largest smartphone maker.
