Samsung SDS adopted agile management for its software development processes. Agile management can be defined as software development methodology in which prototype production and testing by users are frequently repeated instead of concentration on document works and design.

To this end, Samsung SDS sent four developers, one designer and one product manager to Pivotal Labs last year. They stayed in the software consulting firm for about four months and are currently disseminating agile management in Samsung SDS. At present, 70 or so workers at the Seocho R&D Campus of Samsung SDS are moving ahead with five projects based on agile management.

This is for Samsung SDS to enhance its competitiveness as an IT service provider after having spun off its logistics business unit. In the same vein, Samsung SDS is working on some M&A deals and increasing its technology investment. For example, the company recently began to invest in Darktrace and Blocko. Darktrace is a UK-based cyber security solution provider and Blocko is a South Korean blockchain company.

Under the circumstances, the domestic IT service market is expected to be revitalized to some extent although competition in it has disappeared due to the South Korean government’s ban on large corporations’ participation in public-sector projects.
