It is expected that the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) of South Korea will decide on whether to charge 10 former and current executives of Volkswagen with false advertising in September this year. The FTC notified Volkswagen of this as of late before listening to the opinion of the automaker.

The point in question is Volkswagen’s ad in which its diesel vehicles appeared to satisfy the Euro 5 Standard in spite of exhaust reduction system manipulation in the vehicles. In South Korea, the Euro 5 Standard has been applied to 125,522 Volkswagen vehicles subject to recall.

If the FTC decides to charge the executives in September, Volkswagen cannot avoid a pecuniary penalty of dozens of billions of won.

In addition, consumers in South Korean can file suits against the automaker in accordance with the Fair Labeling and Advertising Act.
