A lack of security on Asiana Airlines’ website exposed the sensitive information of its passengers. As a local media reported the news through its website for the first time on the July 18, Asiana Airlines immediately sent a press release to the local press to calm down the scandal.

Asiana Airlines released a statement that there was an exposure of the universal resource locator (URL) for those attached files within contents they uploaded on the frequently asked questions (FAQ) of its Internet bulletin board by some error on the 18th. Accordingly, the air carrier is investigating whether a total of 47,023 contents listed on the FAQ board as of May 2015 have been exposed through web manipulation.

However, only one case was seen to have been accessed as of July 15 and this is not the exposure of personal data of its all club members, according to Asiana Airlines.

The airliner immediately shut down its FAQ server after it was notified of the error at 11 a.m. on the 18th. Asiana Airlines will also report the error case to the Korea Internet & Security Agency to further strengthen the security of its Internet service.
