It has been found that the number of long-term Volkswagen rental customers in South Korea for the first half of this year decreased by more than 50% from a year ago. This is because the South Korean government is planning on strict administrative measures on Audi Volkswagen Korea.

Likewise, the number of Volkswagen’s new car sales in the country dropped significantly in the first half of this year. According to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association, the sales volume totaled 12,462 cars during the period, down 33% from a year earlier.

Under the circumstances, Volkswagen dealerships in the country are expressing concerns and some of them are even considering stepping out of business. “Cancellation of authorization is around the corner and we are trying to increase our sales ahead of it by means of aggressive promotion campaigns,” one of them said, adding, “A large number of Volkswagen dealers are considering moving to the other automakers these days.”

In the meantime, the Korea Consumer Association has begun to collect public complaints in order to help out consumers in the face of disadvantages attributable to Volkswagen’s illegal business activities. “More and more South Korean consumers are turning their backs on Volkswagen in spite of significant discounts,” said an industry expert.
