On July 5, the South Korean government announced a plan for the promotion of the seven service industry sectors of medical, tourism, digital content, education, finance, software and logistics.

According to the plan, telemedicine services are to be allowed in regions with a limited access to medical services such as islands while medical and health information of public agencies are opened to the public for the creation of new industries. In the field of tourism, a large number of regulations are to be eliminated so that lodging and leisure facilities can be located in mountain and coastal areas. For two years to come, the minimum required number of rooms is maintained at 20 instead of 30 in the case of small condominiums so investment in such condominiums can be increased.

When it comes to the digital content industry, so-called selective shutdown is to be discussed as a replacement of across-the-board shutdown. This means those aged below 16 can play Internet games from midnight to 6:00 a.m. if allowed to do so by their parents. In the financial sector, the shareholding regulation applied to Internet-primary banks is relaxed from 4% to 50%.

At the same time, drone-based delivery is to be allowed in islands through a pilot project in the first half of next year. In order to maximize the utilization of drone-based delivery, the government is going to permit it for any purpose other than public security and safety. At present, it is available only for agricultural, imaging and observation applications.
