It has been known that American employees of Samsung USA formed a political action committee (PAC) and are carrying out political activities through the PAC targeting the presidential, senate and house elections in November.

According to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and Samsung USA on July 4, American employees of Samsung USA organized the Samsung America PAC early this year. They have been raising funds after officially registering with the FEC. As of the end of last month, they raised a mere US$17,000 in all. But it is said that they will implement their activities such as raising election funds on a full scale with the elections approaching.

Employees of a company or individuals raise funds and supports candidates and policies via PACs. PACs can have a big impact on the US political circle. It is unprecedented that employees of a US corporation of a Korean company launched a PAC. US corporations of Japanese multinational companies such as Toyota and Sony are said to have operated their PACs for a long time for their own sake.

“Only Americans can form PACs and carry out their activities via the PACs,” said a representative of Samsung. “The Samsung America PAC was formed by American employees. The organization has nothing to do with the company.”
