DASAN Network Solutions announced on July 4 it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to construct the telecommunications infrastructure of Andhara Pradesh (AP) State, India, with Andhra Pradesh State Fibernet Limited (APSFL), one of the major governmental telecommunications companies.

As part of the “Digital India” policy, the Indian government is proceeding with a US$18 billion project to connect the entire region of India through super high-speed internet networks by 2019.

In particular, the AP state, emerging as a strategic investment location with a double-digit growth for four straight years among 29 state governments in India, chose DASAN Network Solutions as its strategic partner for the recent extensive telecommunication infrastructure construction project.

In accordance with the agreement, the two companies will establish a joint venture and start to establish a communication equipment facility production factory in the AP state. With such a localization strategy, DASAN Network Solutions is planning to spread the communication facility supply project in major states of India, while the AP state is expecting production technology transfers and job creations.

APSFL, together with DASAN Network Solutions, plans to raise the internet penetration rate up to 30%, which is currently 2% of the 60 million residents in the AP state. In addition, it is aiming to improve the internet speed up to 10 Megabyte per second (Mbps) from the current 2Mbps.

DASAN Network Solution has been operating a local research and development (R&D) center in Bangalore since 2011 and supplying the Fiber to the Home (FTTH) equipment since 2009 for the high-speed communication network extension project of Bhrat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), the central government’s telecommunication operator.
