POSCO Engineering & Construction (E&C) announced on June 20 that it finished building a plant designed to mine soft coals, which is an order placed by the Moolarben Coal Operations Pty Ltd.

The project, which costs US$50 million (about 8,235 million won) in total, is to increase the annual coal production of the soft coal mine at the western coalfields of New South Wales, Australia, from 800 tonnes to 12 million tonnes.

Having been Awarded the contract in April last year, POSCO E&C received 15 percent of the construction expenses as an incentive as it shortened the construction period by 11 weeks earlier than the date for completion of work that originally falls on this July. In addition, the company has reportedly been recognized as having the best construction technology in the Australian market for resource development plants.

POSCO E&C won an additional contract to expand an underground soft coal mine, a project placed by the same Australian business, the Moolarben Coal Operations Pty Ltd.
