During the warm afternoon of June 14, the Spanish Embassy presented a “delicious” program to its guests to celebrate the World Tapas day. It was the first time the celebration takes place in Korea. The celebratory program features tasting of tapas and voting for the best tapas served that day.
Tapas are bite-sized dishes that are served as appetizers or snacks in the Spanish cuisine.
Eating tapas also has a cultural connotation as it encourages social activities. It’s natural for diners to have conversations with other diners and move around while enjoying “mini-cuisine.”
Spain’s tourism agency has designated the third Thursday of every June as the World Tapas Day and dedicated the day exclusively to the world-wide promotion of tapas in 2010. Tuesday’s event marks the first time to recognize it in Korea.
The event took place at the Spanish Ambassador´s residence organized by Economic and Commercial Office of the Spanish Embassy in Seoul and sponsored by Moritz. During this event, guests had the opportunity to taste tapas served by some of the best Spanish restaurants in Seoul, such as Alma Foods, Spain Club, Sobremesa and Terreno, and vote for the best tasting tapas at the end of the event. Sobremesa turned out to be the winner of the day!
