Hyundai Merchant Marine’s charter rate negotiations and restructuring of debts amounting to 804.3 billion won have turned out well in the end. Under the circumstances, much attention is being paid to whether it will be able to join an international shipping alliance, which is regarded as the final step for its business recovery.

In the global shipping industry, the four major alliances of 2M, O3, CKYHE and G6 are to be realigned into the three of 2M, Ocean and THE alliance. Some CKYHE members such as Hanjin Shipping, Yang Ming Marine Transport and K Line and major G6 members have been incorporated into the THE Alliance.

Hyundai Merchant Marine has been ruled out due to the voluntary agreement between its creditors and itself.
