Samsung Electronics will release the next model of wearable smart device, the Galaxy Gear, a little earlier.

On September 15, a source of industry said, “The product released today earned less public reaction than anticipated, so we will carefully review releasing the next product in line.”

Therefore, it is most likely that Samsung will release its next Galaxy Gear model at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January next year, or at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) the following February.

Samsung Electronics is rushing its next model development because the Galaxy Gear is receiving reviews far below expectations.

The Galaxy Gear attracted global interest even before its release, but once released on September 5, it received not only positive reviews that it is leading the market, but also negative ones about its expensiveness and limited feature set.

According to domestic mobile carriers, Samsung Electronics will host an official release event for the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear in Korea on September 25.

Prior to the domestic release, Korean mobile carriers are using the Galaxy Gear as a promotion tool for the Galaxy Note 3, which is currently taking reservations.

LG U+ will give away Galaxy Gears for free for the first 5,000 people reserving a Galaxy Note 3, and KT will provide a 50,000 won (US$46.20) discount coupon to its Galaxy Note 3 purchasing customers.

A mobile carrier associate criticized, “The Galaxy Gear is being marketed as an accessory part to the Galaxy Note 3 only because the Galaxy Gear on its own has no way to compete in terms of its price or features.”
