LG Chem announced on May 25 that it has been selected as one of the three top prize winners of this year’s Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) Energy Management Leadership Awards scheduled for June 2 in San Francisco.

The CEM is an international ministerial meeting in which 23 countries and three international organizations – IEA, IPEEC and IRENA – gather together to discuss clean energy technology development and solutions to environmental problems.

The first CEM Energy Management Leadership Awards is slated to be launched next month. The purpose of the awards is to disseminate the ISO 50001 energy management system standard and contribute to global energy consumption reduction by improving the energy efficiency of industrial facilities and commercial buildings. 35 enterprises in the 20 countries including South Korea, the United States, Japan, Britain, France and Germany competed for the awards and LG Chem was picked out along with two non-South Korean enterprises.

LG Chem’s plant in Ochang, North Chungcheong Province, in particular, has brought in advanced self-generation systems and energy consumption reduction techniques utilizing new and renewable energy sources while establishing the ISO 50001 standard in a systematic way and managing its energy efficiency on an ongoing basis.
