Kakao announced on May 24 that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in order to launch the Singaporean version of the Traveline, which is a mobile travel information service, within this year. The signing ceremony was attended by STB CTO Quek Choon Yang and Kakao CTO Shin Jeong-hwan.

The Traveline was released in South Korea in August last year. The purpose of the service based on real-time data analysis is to provide travel information shared by users of social network services such as Kakao Story and Instagram.

It also provides mobile chatting among tourists and their travel tips. At present, the service covers Jeju, Busan and Jeonju.

Such travel information services are regarded as a part of Kakao’s global business strategy in that they can lead to profits through a combination with various O2O services in the fields of transport, lodging, shopping and the like.

In South Korea, the Traveline is currently linked to different services such as Daum Map, Kakao Navi and Kakao Taxi.
