K-ICT Born2Global Center, a start-up accelerating center sponsored by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, announced on May 18 that its member company “VITAL SMITH Inc.” has been selected as the only Asian startup of the 11th batch of Startup Sauna, a global leading startup accelerator in Northern Europe.

VITAL SMITH was participated in “European Investor Invitation Pitching Event,” a program connected with “Go-To-Market Overseas Road Show” hosted by the K-ICT Born2Global Center in March.

As a result, the company took first place out of the 16 companies after the evaluations made by investors consisted of coaches in Startup Sauna. In the following final batch competition of 700 startups around the world, it became the only Asian company of the batch with its technology. The competition rate was one out of 50.

With support from the Born2Global Center, VITAL SMITH will join Startup Sauna’s intensive 5-week accelerator program to be held in Helsinki, Finland, until June 3. During the period, Startup Sauna’s coaches will help the company set the direction of business development, workforce process and financing.

On the last day of the program, it will compete with 13 startups selected in Russia, Estonia and Lebanon for the championship.

VITAL SMITH first began with the intention to quickly commercialize the innovative ideas of doctors. The company is run by nine specialists in the medical science, economics and design, including CEO Seok Joon-woo who studied biomedical engineering from Korea University. They developed a solution which can help infertile women check the time of ovulation easily using their saliva and smartphone application.

Unlike the conventional way to check the time of ovulation with urine, the solution can accurately analyze the hormone levels of women with their saliva, helping with the consistent data management.
